On Sunday, 30 September 2012, the Brisbane Chamber Choir – with the Adina String Quartet – presents a journey through poetry, remembrance, and fiery light:
This unique program includes:
- Tarik O’Regan’s The Ecstasies Above – a modern setting of Edgar Allan Poe’s 1831 poem Israfel – in which a supernatural figure’s heavenly vision is poignantly contrasted with the reality of a natural existence.
- Howard Goodall’s In Memoriam Anne Frank – in a work of warmth and gentleness, a contemplative text from poems by Christina Rossetti, Robert Louis-Stevenson, and Richard Lovelace, commemorates the life of Anne Frank.
- Beethoven’s Elegischer Gesang – a celebration of the string quartet combined with voice; a seldom recorded and little known musical gem.
- William Harris’ Faire is the Heaven – an anthem that paints, to borrow from the early Renaissance text, the “Highest farre beyond all telling” which can no “mortal tongue hope to expresse“, in a rendering of joyous music!
With the Adina String Quartet presenting Anton Webern’s early and tonal work Langsamer Satz – literally a “slow movement”, written as a love song to his soon to be wife – you are merely days from another musical treat!
