As part of the ‘A History of the Requiem’ series, the Brisbane Chamber Choir offered a setting composed by the famed opera composer of mid-17th century Italy, Francesco Cavalli. According to the BBC (2011), it was:
“…the composer’s last sacred work, the requiem he composed for his own funeral… Cavalli [left a] highly detailed will, which… provide[d] precise requirements for the composer’s annual memorial service…”
We thoroughly enjoyed bringing this this 17th century view of musical mortality to our audience!
